XLMT 5985 Community Massage Integration

In this course, students will learn and practice chair massage techniques at various locations throughout the community, learn client intakes and conversations, SOAP notes, and explore cultural competency. While enrolled in this course, students will begin to refine and integrate individual skills and techniques working on the public in through the Student Clinic. Community massage students are required to sign up for Massage Clinic shifts (every Friday), and will have the opportunity to apply hands-on skills gained by providing massage to members of the public in the clinic.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

1. Perform advanced skills level for the massage modalities needed in the massage workplace

2. Develop thorough client communication and intake skills through widening the scope of observation, awareness and listening

3. Practice integrating skills from previous hands-on classes in the student clinic

4. Understand and perform appropriate professional and personal boundaries

5. Demonstrate the ability to create rapport, client comfort and safety in a clinic setting

6. Take proper SOAP notes

7. Explore the complexities of Cultural and Community Competency
