RC 120L Advanced Cardiopulmonary Diagnostics and Monitoring Lab

This co-requisite lab to RC 120 allows for practice skills through simulation and repeated practice including, patient assessments, laboratory investigation, pulmonary function testing techniques and interpretation, radiologic assessments, arterial blood gas interpretation, bronchoscopy assisting and sleep study interpretation.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Identify common cardiopulmonary symptoms and relate them to the manifestation of specific respiratory diseases
2. Demonstrate the process of a complete physical patient examination and relate how each component impacts or is affected by the pulmonary system
3. Perform a neurological exam and discuss how the results may cause changes to the patient’s care plan
4. Interpret various laboratory tests in relation to the respiratory system and pulmonary disorders
5. Classify arterial blood gas results and make recommendations based on those findings
6. Describe the components of a pulmonary function test
7. Differentiate between the radiological studies utilized within the scope of respiratory care by comparing studies from common presentations of a variety of pulmonary disorders
8. Perform the role of the respiratory care practitioner during a bronchoscopy procedure
