RC 102 Clinical Patient Assessment

This course provides an introduction to performing patient assessments, teaching interviewing techniques, physical assessments, and the navigation of the patient's chart to gather information pertinent to patient’s care by the respiratory care practitioner.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Differentiate between and correctly document subjective and objective data as it relates to patient assessment
2. Gather information regarding the patient’s pulmonary history through the patient interviews
3. Conduct a physical assessment of a patient to determine their current respiratory status
4. Describe typical findings of common respiratory and cardiovascular disorders
5. Summarize diagnostic study techniques and interpretation of information available from those studies
6. List the requirements for proper written documentation of care
7. Describe the importance of timeliness and factual recording of data as it applies to effectively communicating as a member of the healthcare team
8. List the components necessary for effective verbal communication with other members of the healthcare team using standardized patient handoff reporting
