RC 114 Respiratory Diseases and Pharmacology

This course will review normal anatomic/physiologic components of the cardiopulmonary system, including causes/pathophysiology of cardiopulmonary disorders and the indications, contraindications, mechanisms of action and standard dosages of medications used in treatment of these disorders.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Describe the effects of nervous system medications and their effects on the cardiopulmonary system
2. Identify etiology, pathogenesis, pathophysiology and clinical manifestations of obstructive, restrictive, and infectious pulmonary disorders
3. Recommend appropriate respiratory care medications for the treatment of respiratory disorders based on clinical and/or laboratory data and established protocols
4. Describe patterns of circulatory dysfunction and treatment
5. Describe appropriate use of medications used for advanced cardiac life support and neuromuscular blockade
