ART 294 Watercolor 1

Emphasis on the basic technical and aesthetic aspects of painting with watercolor media. Explore and develop skills in the use of color, form, and composition. Lectures, demonstrations, critiques, and discussions expand students' perceptions of the artistic process and watercolor painting practice. May be repeated up to 8 credits.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

1. Create and analyze watercolor projects that demonstrate critical and creative thinking

2. Explore the technical aspects of watercolor painting media, including but not limited to, watercolor paint, paper, and mediums and additives

3. Apply watercolor painting skills, including but not limited to, washes, wet-on-wet, and glazing

4. Identify and utilize aesthetic elements including value, positive and negative space, perspective, and a variety of brush strokes

5. Identify and demonstrate the use of specific color theory

6. Analyze paintings verbally, or in writing, related to specific painting media, theory, and vocabulary

7. Display specific elements of creative thinking, including persistence, risk-taking, reflection, and exploration
