ART 234 Drawing 2: Life Drawing

Fundamental studio course in life drawing. Students will develop skills in visual representation using the human figure, other organic forms, or landscape. Students will create and analyze drawings that demonstrate creative and critical thinking, develop compositional skills and focus on anatomical structures, proportion and depth. Students will examine the portrayal of the figure through art historical theory and context. May be repeated up to 8 credits.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

1. Create drawing projects that utilize critical and creative thinking skills

2. Explore and apply imagery using the human figure, organic forms and/or landscape within drawing media

3. Demonstrate proficient use of a variety of traditional and non-traditional drawing media, including but not limited to, charcoal, conte’, ink, gesso, aqueous media, pastel, and erasers

4. Demonstrate proficient use of 2D visual elements in drawing, including line, value, shape, composition, positive and negative space, depth, form, and mark-making

5. Demonstrate proficient use of representational drawing skills, including proportion, fore-shortening, anatomical structure, form and depth

6. Analyze drawings verbally, or in writing, related to specific drawing media, theory, history and vocabulary

7. Demonstrate specific elements of creative thinking, including Persistence, Risk-taking, Reflection and Exploration
