XAPP 5991 Anatomy/Physiology/Pathology 5

Anatomy, Physiology & Pathology 5 (APP 5) is the final course in the APP series. It covers digestive, urinary, reproductive and endocrine system pathways. Using a multi-disciplinary, integrated approach, which includes experiential anatomy, movement, mind-body therapies and self-care, massage students will increase their own body awareness which will inform their work with clients. Students also learn and use anatomical terminology, health and wellness concepts, and assessment tools.

XAPP 5990 and XLMT 5975 (XAPP 5990 may be taken concurrently)

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

1. Understand the function of the digestive, urinary, reproductive and endocrine systems

2. Discuss the pathologies of the digestive, urinary, reproductive and endocrine systems

3. Understand the importance of the digestive, urinary, reproductive and endocrine as these systems share a direction of flow and pathways of activities

4. Gain knowledge and experience of the pathways in the body: the digestive, urinary, reproductive, and endocrine systems as well as their associated pathologies

5. Practice experiential anatomy, movement and mind body therapies to 1) increase one’s own body awareness for self-care and 2) inform work with clients in an integrated multi-disciplinary approach

6. Improve skills to 1) communicate safely and appropriately with massage clients, fellow students and instructors, 2) practice, create, plan and use manual treatments and 3) complete assignments in a timely manner

7. Incorporate anatomical knowledge and hands-on skills to safely evaluate and accommodate a wide range of client needs with beneficial approaches
