ED 232 Classroom Community and Conflict Resolution

Classroom culture education is an evolving area of study that recognizes the importance of creating a holistic and inclusive classroom environment beyond behavior management. Topics include social and emotional learning, trauma-informed and culturally sustaining pedagogy, cognitive psychology and motivation theory, and restorative justice in student-centered classrooms. Students will learn instructional and conflict-resolution techniques to accommodate multiple learning styles, abilities, and needs.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Analyze historical and cultural factors that influence classroom management approaches and practices
2. Develop culturally sustaining strategies to create a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom climate that fosters student engagement and learning
3. Apply the foundational principles of trauma-informed teaching, including the impact of trauma on students’ physical, emotional and cognitive well-being
4. Identify how restorative practices are applied in classroom design and community building
