NRS 370 Collaborative Experience

A practical experience that benefits both the student and the community partner. The Collaborative Experience elective will allow students to earn credit while working in a healthcare setting of their choosing, one that allows for exploration of interest, will enrich their skills and insight as a professional nurse, or that allows them to work in expanded roles (i.e. Nurse Manager or Clinical Nurse Educator) and make connections for future employment or career advancement. Each credit represents 36 hours of clinical work.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Evidence-Based Practice Integration a. Identify, evaluate, and apply relevant evidence-based research to improve patient care outcomes in the selected healthcare setting
2. Project Development and Implementation
a. Design a practical evidence-based project that addresses a specific clinical issue or enhances existing practices within the community partner organization
3. Critical Appraisal of Literature
a. Conduct a comprehensive literature review to critically appraise and synthesize current research, demonstrating the ability to discern high-quality evidence that informs nursing practice by utilizing appropriate methods of data collection and analysis
4. Interprofessional Collaboration
a. Work collaboratively with healthcare professionals and stakeholders to gather insights, facilitate project implementation, and promote a culture of evidence-based practice
5. Patient and Community Impact
a. Evaluate the effects of the evidence-based project on patient care quality, safety, and community health, demonstrating an understanding of nursing’s role in population health management
6. Communication Skills
a. Develop and deliver effective presentations and written reports to communicate project goals, processes, and outcomes to diverse audiences, including clinical staff and stakeholders
7. Reflective Practice
a. Engage in reflective practice to assess personal growth and learning throughout the project, identifying strengths and areas for future improvement in evidence-based nursing
8. Ethical Considerations
a. Address ethical considerations related to research and practice in nursing, ensuring that all project activities uphold patient rights and confidentiality
