FN 110 Personal Nutrition

This is an introductory class that emphasizes practical application of nutrition knowledge to enhance general health. Students will develop skills for improving dietary habits and evaluating the validity of nutrition information.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Apply scientific reasoning and critical thinking to evaluate the validity of nutrition information
2. Identify where the macronutrients and selected micronutrients are found in foods, their dietary recommendations, explain how they contribute to health, and how dietary intake may be modified to accommodate health conditions and food preferences
3. Evaluate food labels and dietary patterns using evidence-based guidelines, and identify strategies for improving dietary habits and planning meals
4. Explain the challenges and best practices related to body weight management and its relationship to physical and mental health
5. Explain the importance of a moderate approach when it comes to nutrition and energy balance, recognizing that all foods can fit into a healthful diet
