ECE 210 Applying Early Childhood Curriculum

In this 4-credit, online course, students will study best practices and a play-based, Reggio-inspired approach to Early Childhood Education. There is an emphasis on the design of the environment as the “third teacher,” including science, technology, engineering, the arts, math (STEAM), and the outdoor environment.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

1. Examine emergent curriculum activities based on observations and a play based approach to early childhood education

2. Utilize developmental goals and environmental assessments to enhance learning opportunities for  for preschool-aged children

3. Explore a variety of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, the arts, math) learning opportunities for young children

4. Design science and math inquiry based curriculum activities for young children that include the national standards

5. Explore outdoor games, physical activity, and nature-based learning environments for young children
