APR 120 Carpentry Interior Finish

Designed for Oregon state-recognized apprentices employed in the carpentry trade. The curriculum is competency-based and modular in format. This course introduces students to the materials, layout, and installation procedures for many types of suspended ceilings. Students will also learn the selection and installation of different trim types used in finish work, layout and installation of basic stairs, as well as methods of proper cabinet installation.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Establish a level line
2. Identify the different types of suspended ceilings
3. Interpret plans related to ceiling layout
4. Make square and miter cuts using a miter box or power miter saw
5. Make coped joint cuts using a coping saw
6. Install interior trim, including Door, Window, Base and Ceiling trim
7. Layout factory-made cabinets, countertops, and backsplashes
8. Explain the installation of an island base
9. Calculate the total rise, number and size of risers, and number and size of treads required for a stairway
10. Layout and cut stringers, risers, and treads
