PH 201 General Physics

Algebra/trig-based General Physics sequence for science majors. Concepts include force, acceleration, work, energy and momentum of objects with mass in various kinds of motion. Emphasizes conceptual understanding, mathematical representations, problem solving, applications and science skills. Lab included.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to: 
1. Interpret various representations of motion including diagrams, graphs and equations
2. Apply Newton’s Laws using Force Diagrams and related equations
3. Utilize Momentum-Impulse using bar charts and related equations
4.  Explore Work-Energy concepts using bar charts and related equations
5. Solve Static Equilibrium problems using Extended Force Diagrams and related equations
6. Design and analyze modeling, testing and application type experiments
7. Solve physical problems using physics principles along with algebra/trig, extreme case analysis, proportional reasoning, and multiple representations
