NRS 113A Transition to Registered Nurse

NRS 113 A is a transition course is designed for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and certified Paramedics seeking to advance their careers by becoming Registered Nurses (RNs). The curriculum builds on prior healthcare experience, offering an accelerated pathway into the 2nd year of the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program. This course emphasizes critical thinking, clinical judgment, and evidence-based practice while deepening knowledge of health promotion and of acute and chronic health conditions. The course concepts are taught through lecture, simulation, and case studies. Students will create care plans and utilize the clinical decision model to promote safety and wellness of clients and families experiencing acute and chronic conditions in a variety of healthcare settings.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

1. Create evidence-based, individualized, developmentally appropriate plans of care that are dynamic and based on the changing needs of the client and family
2. Examine the clinical decision model to guide client-centered, developmentally and culturally appropriate, evidence-based decision-making in the acute care setting
3. Examine potential legal and ethical issues related to client decision-making and informed consent in acute care settings
4. Communicate discharge plans in collaboration with the client, family, and health care team
5. Apply evidence-based interventions, agency policy and procedure, and clinical practice guidelines in the provision of client care in the acute care setting
