HDFS 226E Desarrollo del Niño

Este curso se imparte completamente en español. Curso enfocado en el estudio del desarrollo del niño desde el nacimiento hasta la adolescencia enfatizando las influencias prenatales, análisis de teorías sobre el desarrollo infantil, instrucción y experiencia en la observación y registro del comportamiento del niño pequeño; abarcando el estudio de las diferencias entre los adultos y niños así como la importancia del juego y la disciplina. Los estudiantes de Educación Infantil deberán cursar HDFS 226 o HDFS 226 E

This course is taught fully in Spanish including all lessons, materials, homework, assignments, quizzes and exams. Study of the physical, social-emotional, and intellectual development of the child from birth through adolescence. Some emphasis on prenatal influences. A survey of various child-study approaches. Instruction and experience in observing and recording the behavior of young children. Study of adult-child differences, value of play, and discipline. Early Childhood Education majors must take either HDFS 226 or HDFS 226E.

Objetivos y Metas del Curso:

Los estudiantes que completan satisfactoriamente este curso podrán:
1. Identificar y explicar las teorías del desarrollo (enfoques el estudio del niño)
2. Describir el desarrollo del embrión y el feto
3. Describir los factores que influencian el desarrollo prenatal
4. Explicar los efectos del ambiente en el desarrollo
5. Identificar el desarrollo físico, cognitivo y socio-emocional durante las etapas de la infancia, niñez y el desarrollo temprano (nacimiento-6 años de edad-incluyendo cómo los niños se distinguen de los adultos, importancia del juego, y tipos de disciplina)
6. Identificar el desarrollo básico, cognitivo y socio-emocional del niño y adolescente (7-18 años de edad)
7. Aplicar entendimiento de los conceptos, principios y términos aprendidos acerca de la conducta y actividades del niño en desarrollo (infante hasta los 6 años de edad)

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Identify and explain the theories of development (child-study approaches)
2. Describe the development of the embryo and fetus
3. Describe the factors influencing prenatal development
4. Explain the effects of the environment on development
5. Identify the physical, cognitive and social/emotional developmental stages of infancy, toddlerhood, and the early childhood years (birth – 6 years of age – including how children differ from adults, the value of play, and types of discipline)
6. Identify the basic physical, cognitive, and social/emotional development of middle childhood and adolescence (7 – 18 years of age)
7. Apply an understanding of the concepts, principles and terms learned to the behaviors and activities of the developing child (infant through 6 years of age)
