CNC 111 Machining: Introduction to CNC Operator

Students will be introduced to the 2-axis CNC lathe and the 3-axis CNC mill. They will learn how to set up work offsets, tool height offsets, tool holders, and work holding. They will learn to operate the CNC machine and run pre-programmed parts. They will set up and run real-world parts and gain experience as a CNC operator. This course will be an introduction to the study of metrology. Students will get hands on experience using metrology hand tools such as Calipers, Micrometers, and other basic metrology tools. Students will learn to read prints and take part measurements based on those prints. Lab included.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Basic set up and operation of 2 axis CNC Lathes and 3 axis CNC Mills
2. Select and set up basic cutting tools for use in CNC Mills/Lathes
3. Select and set up basic workholding methods for use in CNC Mills/Lathes

4. Complete basic part inspection and quality control
