PTA 133L Applied Kinesiology 2 Lab

The co-requisite lab to PTA 133 allows for physical therapy skills practice and data collection based on principles of kinesiology for the upper quarter. Skills include palpation, goniometry, therapeutic exercise, manual muscle testing, posture analysis, and documentation.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Demonstrate the value of the therapeutic alliance through collaborative
2. Demonstrate the value of the therapeutic alliance through collaborative decision-making, developing person-centered relationships, and promoting realistic goals
3. Effectively educate others in the relationship between optimal exercise performance, functional goal attainment, and injury prevention Demonstrate competency and performance of selected tests and measures: a) manual muscle testing, b) range of motion, c) posture, and d) respiration
4. Use biomechanical terms when describing and documenting position and motion
5. Recognize when a PTA should communicate with the supervising physical therapist before, during, and after therapeutic exercise interventions
6. Select therapeutic exercise based on the physical therapy plan of care using principles of evidence-based practice
7. Decide when to progress or modify exercises based on the physical therapy plan of care and patient response
8. Demonstrate competency in documenting relevant information that indicates skilled and medically necessary actions based on the patient status and physical therapy plan of care
