BA 278 Leadership and Team Dynamics

This course is designed to provide emerging and existing leaders the opportunity to explore, develop and improve their leadership and team skills. The course integrates readings from the humanities, experiential exercises, films, and contemporary readings on leadership. Topics include: Leadership philosophies, ethical issues related to leadership, strategies for identifying and articulating visions, empowering effective teams, goal setting, evaluation, decision-making, and conflict resolution.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

1. Evaluate advantages, disadvantages, and circumstantial uses of various leadership styles

2. Discuss the importance of creating, articulating, and fostering a shared vision as a leader

3. Develop measurable goals that are clear, challenging, and obtainable

4. Relate understanding of various ethical tools and the reasoning behind various ethical positions

5. Utilize a process approach for improved decision making

6. Identify and constructively resolve organization, team, and interpersonal conflicts

8. Apply information about human reactions to change and the skills necessary to lead or act as a change agent to personal life experiences
