APR 117 Carpentry Framing and Introduction to Concrete

Designed for Oregon state-recognized apprentices employed in the carpentry trade. The curriculum is competency-based and modular in format. This course introduces students to framing roofs, windows and exterior doors, as well as an introduction to concrete.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Identify the methods used to calculate the length of a rafter
2. Use a rafter framing square, speed square, and calculator in laying out a roof
3. Frame a gable roof with vent openings
4. Identify various types of fixed, sliding, and swinging windows
5. State the requirements for a proper window installation
6. Identify the common types of exterior doors and explain how they are constructed
7. Identify the parts of a door installation
8. Describe the composition of concrete
9. Identify types of concrete reinforcement materials and describe their uses
10. Identify the parts of various types of forms
