HIM 230 Quality Improvement in Healthcare

This course investigates the components of quality and performance improvement in health care. Students explore the functions of risk management, utilization review in case studies. Quality performance improvement and regulatory requirements will be investigated. Students will learn skills in data analysis, performance improvement tools, and data presentation.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Define a performance improvement model
2. Identify improvement opportunities based on based on the aggregation and analysis of performance improvement data
3. Communicate performance improvement activities and recommendations
4. Measure customer satisfaction and describe ways to decrease risk exposure
5. Apply performance improvement tools to manage organizational staff and human resources
6. Research and navigate the accreditation, certification, and licensure process
7. Identify aspects of change management, teamwork and the human side of change
8. Explain common research methodologies and why they are used in healthcare
