XWLD 9025 Forging:Custom Metal Fab

Participants will learn to work with a forge to fabricate metal objects using a specific design. Students will learn to use equipment safely, set up a forge, operate equipment, general shop safety, maintain and secure necessary inventory of supplies, and methods of using a forget to fabricate an object based on a given design. Covers learning skills including temper metals, hot cutting, riveting and other methods of metal creation and manipulation to obtain the desired product. Covers estimating material needs and pricing based on a given design.

Course Learning Outcomes

After successful completion of program, learners will:
Safely operate and clean standard equipment used in a forge shop.
Identify metals used in forging and be able to locate information on characteristics including strength, malleability, luster, and heating points.
Be able to heat, combine, and temper metals.
Use successful techniques to form heated metals into desired form, including but not limited to hammering, drilling, twisting, tapering, scrolling and beveling.
