XHO 9473 Pharmacy Tech Training 2

Pharmacy technicians work under the supervision of a pharmacist in drug stores, hospitals, clinics and grocery stores. In this role, you'll receive written prescription requests and refill orders. Pharmacy technicians are also responsible for answering phones and assisting customers with basic questions and finding items in a pharmacy. However, you must refer all clinical questions and complex issues to the pharmacist. In this role, you'll also fill bottles with medication, label items, and ensure drugs are properly stored and secured.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Sit for the pharmacy certification national exam
2. Demonstrate a working knowledge of the "basics" of what it means to be a pharmacy technician and what your duties entail
3. Explain how to process and fill a prescription and when it is legal to do so
4. Understand pharmacy law and how it applies to work as a technician
5. Demonstrate a strong understanding of ethics in the medical field
6. Be able to understand various medical abbreviations and their use in prescriptions
7. Have a deep understanding of patient safety
8. Demonstrate working knowledge of different medication formulations and why they are needed
9. Perform various calculations necessary for work in a pharmacy
10. Understand the difference between a pharmacy technician license and a certified pharmacy technician license
11. Know roughly 100 brand/generic drug names
12. Understand the difference between the PTCE and the ExCPT exams
13. Be able to explain CEs and the requirements for your license
