Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to: 1. Demonstrate knowledge of theories and concepts used in sociology to analyze social inequality 2. Utilize empirical data to describe patterns of social inequality and social dynamics that contribute to those patterns 3. Explore how categories of difference (such as race, gender, and social class) are socially constructed and maintained 4. Consider the significance of social stratification for shaping individual life chances and perspectives 5. Engage with contemporary debates and controversies emerging from differences of gender, race, disability, sexuality, and social class
