FIRE 111 Wildland Fire Communication

This seminar course will help students explore communications used in wildland fire. Weekly meetings will include guest speakers, professional development opportunities, and student presentations. These will revolve around the multiple facets of communication before, during, and after a wildland fire event.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Describe communications processes that occur before, during, and after a wildland fire event
2. Define and use key terms and concepts from wildland fire science and management
3. Identify where to gather fire information from a variety of sources, and where to apply information in a variety of media
4. Discuss the intersections between society and wildland fire communications
5. Relate fire management concepts to human relations and organizational skills required for fire careers including written, oral, and interpersonal communication
6. Apply basic concepts from communications theory to understand the interactive communications process
