ECE 120 Introduction to Early Childhood

Course is designed to give an overview of the field of early childhood education. It explores career options, types of programs, history, advocacy and personal qualities of successful child care professionals.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Examine emergent curriculum activities based on observations and a play based approach to early childhood education
2. Utilize developmental goals and environmental assessments to enhance learning opportunities for preschool-aged children
3. Explore a variety of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, the arts, math) learning opportunities for young children
4. Design science and math inquiry based curriculum activities for young children that include the national standards
5. Explore outdoor games, physical activity, and nature-based learning environments for young children
