BI 231 Human Anatomy and Physiology 1

Foundational first course in anatomy/physiology. Topics include human body organization, histology and the integumentary, skeletal, articular, and muscular body systems; nervous system fundamentals and autonomic nervous system. Common clinical applications associated with these topics are presented. Lab included.

BI 112 (preferred) or BI 221 with a grade of C- or better. Recommended: CH 112 with a grade of C- or better

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Utilize appropriate terminology to effectively read, evaluate and communicate information related to human anatomy and physiology
2. Propose evidence-based hypotheses which correlate functions of anatomical structures and related physiological responses
3. Explain principles of homeostasis, including the interrelatedness of physiological systems
4. Use appropriate techniques to examine anatomical structures and evaluate physiological functions
5. Apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology to real-world human health and disease concepts, including individual differences
