BA 214 Business Communications

Introduces workplace and professional communications and provides students with the tools needed to collect, organize, and present information in a business and organizational setting. Students will learn how to use library and internet resources to evaluate sources and collect information. Students will use modern software applications to write and format formal business reports, develop and deliver persuasive presentations, and conduct team based communication, including via e-mail.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
1. Explain communication theory and use in written assignments and oral assignments
2. Use library resources to effectively obtain information needed for business reports and presentations
3. Communicate personal and organizational information using standard business document formats and business presentation techniques and tools
4. Research, write, and edit correctly formatted business documents using online and library resources and business software applications
5. Identify factors for selecting appropriate technology, including email, social media, and video conferencing software, for business communication needs based on the message and audience
6. Plan, research, and format a formal report on a topic relating to business
7. Describe the ethical and legal considerations of effective business communications
8. Proofread business documents for typographical, spelling, grammatical, and mechanical faults, and evaluate placement of message on the page
